Fitness or Physique

For many, physique is the end all and be all of fitness. The belief that fitness means a bigger chest, better frame, and good looking butt with the many other attributes being only side benefits seems to be the dominant theme among the masses. What if I was to argue that fitness and physique are really just dependents, but focusing on the “side benefits” (and I don’t mean the many health benefit) may actually be more benefiacial?

For me, physique is more of a fitness guide, but not my main focus or motivation. I use my physique to plan my fitness routine, exercises, and workout, which muscles require more or less work, but it’s not what drives me to be active or workout. My drive is inner stregnth, personality, capabilities, and determination, fitness of mind as well as body. Focusing on such brings me more enjoyment, accomplishment, and better than ever physical results.

With this I ask you, which one is more important – your fitness or your physique?

Gym or Gym-not

Here’s something that I have experienced many times before (often under different circumstances), but most recently, yesterday….I’m sure many people have experienced this. Maybe, I’m the only one, but either way, here goes:

Yesterday was a long difficult day for me. It was draining physically and mentally. Something (an external something that in general, I have very little control over) I had been working on for over three months began to fall apart bit by bit in the space of two hours. This something is a make it or break it part of my life and dream to continue living life how I have planned to and to continue to follow my dreams. My mood and mindset began to rapidly change as fast as the pieces I had worked so hard to build over the past three months began to fall apart. While draining me of most of my physical and mental strength to deal with it, it took the rest of my energy to simply get through it. It was a struggle. I fought hard to remain positive and try put the pieces back together. It will be alright….it had to be. I had worked too hard to let it all just slip away in such a short time. I had to remain strong, believing with all my strength that It won’t fall apart and I won’t let it. I won’t go down without a fight. The day was over and I felt alright. I made it!

However, my final decision of the day came. It was gym time and I began questioning whether I had the strength, physical and mental, to go to the gym or not. I had a pounding headache (thankfully not a migraine this time…just a headache) from the day’s fight and pressure I was under. I wanted to go to the gym….I really did, but how? Before I even begin my workout at the gym, I would have a fifteen minute walk to the gym. It is usually a good walk, but this time, it just felt so far away.

This is a literal and I mean literal and not exaggeration written summary of how I felt and how I made my decision. Have you ever felt or do you ever feel this way? I’m sure everyone has had a day or two like this when things just aren’t going right and the gym just becomes another struggle of the day……

I made my decision. Gym it was. I went to the gym, and manged to complete a great workout and felt great!

The Circle of Vhlf

What is Vhlf?

In short, Vhlf stands for virtual health, life and fitness. On my journey to losing weight, I found that when health and fitness is involved, there is a third element that plays a big role in attaining and achieving such goals. To begin with, losing weight isn’t easy. One must develop a strong attitude and desire towards health and fitness. There are sacrifices that we have to make within our daily lives…sacrifices such as not eating our favorite cake or ice cream as much as we want to or missing an hour or a night of socializing in order to go to the gym. These sacrifices are hard to begin with, but get easier as time goes on because first of all we develop an attitude towards our goals that we are trying to achieve, and secondly we educate ourselves and understand why we aren’t eating the ice cream. As time goes on, we realize how we don’t really need the ice cream and we understand why it’s not good to eat too much of it. Instead of ignoring the ice cream, we consciously decide not to eat it. It becomes part of our life and understanding that these foods are not good for us and our goals.

So now, we’ve made some heavy changes in our life our attitude. We often need motivation and inspiration to keep going. It is our life and psychology that motivates us. Our schedule is often built around the gym and meals. Again, our attitude and motivation keeps us going. Life keeps us going… It is important to understand what we are thinking on this difficult journey. But it gets easier and easier.

As it gets easier and we get closer to achieving our goals, the changes we made in our lives have now changed our lives. We look different. Things that we didn’t realize we could do, such as jumping barriers running fast, have now become part of reality. We start doing them and love every minute of it. Our lives have changed.

Hence HLF – Health, Life and Fitness….this is the gist of the Vhlf concept.
